He said that he had been dreaming for this day to come in his life and now it was are laity to him which was enthralling for him. At the same time, he also mentioned that he was looking forward to coming to Abu Dhabi again to participate in the nest edition of the championship. His excitement about winning this tournament lies in the fact that he considers this tournament of jiu-jitsu to be one of the best tournaments in the world.

Talking about the tournament’s final fight in which Almeida won, his extra weight in comparison to his opponent would have given him an extra advantage but he made it sure not to make undue utilization of the same. He said that the entire credit of his winning went to his coach.

On the other hand, on the women’s tournament, it was Gabrielle Garcia who emerged victors and surprised everybody with her excellent jiu-jitsu skills. Her fight was tough although it was hard for the spectators to understand. So to her the victory was worth it.

Besides the crowned prince’s august presence, there had been an arrangement of lucky draw and the two winners pulled out names of the inners and the winners got a Land Rover and a Jaguar car.

The art of Jiu-jitsu

The art of jiu-jitsu lies in the conservation of energy, just like nature conserves its own. The yardstick of efficiency in this martial art is based on how little strength one is making use of while making the moves to strike the opponent. The motion should be all the more economic so that the opponent will be down and not much of sweat will be wasted-more the sweat, more the energy wasted. That is almost regarded as a discredit. A good jiu-jitsu player can be identified if he breathes through his nose throughout the showdown. That is enough proof to show that he is not tired at all.

With practice, the ability to fight on for hours sharpens. Sloppy techniques are a strict no-no. The best way to judge how efficient one has become in jiu-jitsu is to go find a suitable partner who is quite experienced in this already and get into a wrestling session rather than simply punching on bags and practising kata. One needs to bring out that perfect game hidden inside him and that can be only achieved through keeping focus on how beautiful he can deliver the techniques because after all, jiu-jitsu is an art.

Very few can make it to that perfect and beautiful form of jiu-jitsu. But what this art gives out immediately after its initial mastering is the transformation of a character which includes personal development and overall uplifting of the personality. One not only becomes strong physically but also his character becomes a well-shaped one. This is because one breaks the shackles of emotional weaknesses and rises above them and gains the control of his soul. That is where the art of jiu-jitsu becomes meaningful to one’s life. It is not just a combat mechanism but a form of contemplation as well.

MORE ON JIU JITSU

Of the numerous martial arts practiced the world over, one cannot help but come across Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. It is one of the most well known forms of martial arts, and it is practiced by many the world over. This technique focuses on grappling methods, and ground fighting skills. The art was introduced in Brazil by Mitsuyo Maeda, who was a student of Kodokan Judo.

So, when a couple of Jiu Jitsu fighters got their brown belts from Jiu Jitsu legend Roger Gracie, it made the sports page of quite a few sports journals and papers. Sahid Khamlichi and Yasmine Wilson were awarded the prestigious brown belts by the legend, earlier this month, and this comes after years and years of hard work and toil and dedication. When approached, Khamlichi said that it was a huge honour to get his belt from the Jiu Jitsu legend, and it was really shocking, as he was not expecting it in the least. In the UK, there are only two black belts Jiu Jitsu fighters, but neither of them compete. So, if things go well, both Khamlichi and Wilson have the full potential to go all the way, and compete at the various international events and tournaments.

When their coach Capel was asked what he thinks of Yasmine, he stated that she has every chance of becoming the greatest Jiu Jitsu fighter in the UK, and the future really looks promising for her, and she can very well become the most undeniable female Jiu Jitsu practitioner in the country, and will surely make her mark in the world tournaments. Yasmine was of the opinion that she knew that she was doing well in LA and in Abu Dhabi, but she was not expecting Roger Gracie to hand her the brown belt.

Focus on Jiu Jitsu

Jujutsu is a Japanese martial art. And it is a method of close combat for defeating an armed and armored opponent in which one uses no weapon or only a short weapon. Ju can be translated to gentle, flexible or yielding and Jujutsu can be translated to mean art or technique. Mainly it represents manipulating the opponent’s force against himself rather than confronting it with one’s force. Jujutsu developed among the samurai of feudal Japan as a method for defeating an armed and armored opponent in which one uses no weapon or only a short weapon. Because striking against an armored opponent proved ineffective, practitioner learned that the most efficient methods neutralizing an enemy took the form of pins, joint locks and throws.

There are many variations of the art, which leads to diversity of approaches. Jujutsu schools may utilize all forms of grappling techniques to some degree. In addition to jujutsu, many schools teach the use of weapons. Today, Jujutsu is practiced in both traditional and modern sport forms. Derived sport forms include the Olympic sport and martial art of judo, which was developed by Kano Jigoro in the late 19th century from several traditional style of jujutsu. And Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, which was in turn derived from earlier (pre-world war-II) version of Kodokan judo.

Japanese jujutsu systems typically place more emphasis on throwing, immobilizing and pinning, joint locking, choking and strangling techniques as compared with other martial art systems such as karate. Atemi waza (striking techniques) were seen as less important in older Japanese systems, since samurai body armor protected against many striking techniques. The Chinese systems focus on punching, striking and kicking more than jujutsu. In comparison, systems that derive more directly from Japanese sources show less preference for such techniques. Now it is a very popular and entertaining game among Chinese, Japanese and others country.

JIU JITSU STAR JOINS UFC

Milton Vieira, one of the most notable exponents of Jiu Jitsu to hail from Brazil in recent years is set to make his debut in the eight sided ring of the Ultimate Fighting Championship or the UFC on the 23rd of June, 2012 at the Joao Havelange Stadium in UFC 147. Vieira, who has a Mixed Martial Arts record of 13-7-1, will come face to face with Felipe Arantes, who has a UFC record of 1-1 in the pay per event of the promotion, according to the Brazilian Twitter account.

Vieira is one of the most talented exponents of the traditional form of Jiu Jitsu from Brazil, a country famed for producing athletes like Jon Jones and Anderson Silva, who are holders of Black Belts in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu but Vieira showed his prowess in the traditional format of the sport from a very young age and has since gone on to achieve all the heights in the sport, making him a premier fighter in Mixed Martial Arts, thanks to his background in the sport.

The 33 year old has been credited for inventing the now infamous Anaconda Choke in Mixed Martial Arts and although he did not fare well in his previous few MMA matches against Welterweight fighters, his debut in the Octagon of the UFC come the 23rd of June will hold several clues as to how his career will unfold in the future.

Moreover, having had enough experience in the ring, it is expected that Vieira will sweep past Arantes with ease but owing to his poor form and fitness, if he doesn’t manage to win the match, lots of question marks will be raised as to why the UFC has signed a washed out Jiu Jitsu karate black belt than going for someone who is young enough to sustain himself.

THE BEAUTIFUL SPORT

Jiu Jitsu has been quite a famous form of martial art which basically incorporates the act of self defense by focusing on grappling and ground fighting. This form of martial art has taken its base from the Japanese martial art technique known as Kodokan Judo. The beauty of this martial art is that it does not differentiate between small and huge individuals and is actually designed to help small individuals fight their own battles with huge opponents. Jiu Jitsu makes use of certain techniques which when used in the correct manner. The use of joint locks and choke holds are some of the basic essentials when making use of Jiu Jitsu.

Jiu Jitsu is quite different and set apart from the pother system of fighting in the fact that it is not just a martial art solely, but also a sport which is to be enjoyed. Millions of people watch wrestlers, boxers and savage fighters participate in Jiu Jitsu tournaments and display and array of skills so as to win over their opponents. The entire concept revolving around Jiu Jitsu is making the opponent fall to the ground so that one can make use of ground fighting techniques and measures. After all, when one is on the ground, there is no huge and small factor that comes into the picture and it all finally boils down to that special move displayed at the apt moment which leads to the submission by the opponent and an individual’s victory.

The side control, full mount, back mount, guard are some of the positions that are most well known in the Jiu Jitsu practice arena. These techniques are then modified to form further new techniques and the rest of them are all based on one’s application of these techniques.
